Mechanism

Down syndrome (DS) is a complex genetic disease that has been difficult to study in mice. In this project, we will create rat models of DS to learn much more about why the extra copy of genes on chromosome 21 in DS causes so many health problems. Our goal is to develop new therapies to improve the lives of persons with and without DS.

Mechanism

Problems with the immune system can cause disease. Respiratory tract infection (RTI) is a large and deadly problem for persons with Down syndrome (DS). In this project, we will learn much more about why the local lung immune system is broken in DS, with an eye towards the development of new therapies to improve the defenses against RTI in persons with and without DS.
