The paradox of myeloid leukemia of Down syndrome

Down syndrome (DS) children have a significantly higher risk of developing acute leukemias compared to non- DS children. The goal of this proposal is to determine the role of cystathionine-ß-synthase (CBS) in oxidative phosphorylation and cytarabine sensitivity/resistance in myeloid leukemia associated with DS (ML-DS). This proposal will also identify a novel treatment strategy for cytarabine-resistant (refractory/relapsed) ML-DS.
