Use of a digital memory prosthetic to support autobiographical memory in down syndrome

Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that is associated with disproportionate deficits in hippocampally-dependent memory (Godfrey & Lee, 2018; Pennington et al., 2003), resulting in a particular difficulty remembering specific details from past events. In addition to making it difficult for individuals with Down syndrome to access and share their past, this overgeneral memory can interfere with mental health (Waters 2014; King et al., 2019; Latorre et al., 2013) and independence (Holland et al., 2016; Sheldon et al., 2011). In the current project, the investigators examine the efficacy of a user-friendly and evidence-based (Martin et al., 2022) behavioral intervention—HippoCamera—in enhancing memory specificity in this population.
