Supporting mobility at the same age as their peers, can have positive effects on the social, emotional, and even cognitive development of children with Down Syndrome, who typically are delayed in meeting developmental milestones. Our research aims to find out if two specific mobility aids, partial bodyweight support and powered wheelchair that can be used in both sitting and standing positions, are effective in helping young children with Down syndrome develop their mobility skills and engage in play. We will use wearable sensors and machine learning methods to measure if children with Down Syndrome move around more while using the mobility aids and how their bodies respond to the devices.
